Blue Screen
« on: 20 November 2007, 11:28:58 »

Anyone had the blue screen on their computer in the last few days..

SWMBO and mine both suffered this today but after shouting at it and restarting all is ok,,

Just wondering if its a problem with the virus update or windows..Must be one of them as SWMBO does not frequent dodgy sites..I think.. :D  And neither do i before anyone says different..

Just for the record im using XP and AVG anti virus..

Probably an issue with a piece of hardware or a troublesome device driver for it to die that badly.

How old is the hard drive?

Very strange one, no text on the blue screen?

What was the time difference between them both going?

is there ANY shared hardware, like a broadband router?

was going to suggest a power spike, but the laptop shouldnt have been affected like that

Hmm. Do you have a piece of hardware that you've recently installed new drivers for on both machines? Failing that, just keep an eye on it and if it happens again make a note of the error message.

There was a fair bit of thundery activity around last night, as well as heavy rain. I'm thinking a nanosecond power supply interruption or spike in your household's mains.

Seeing as none of mine have blue screened, and it needs a kernel process to bsod it, I'm guessing something with the AV...

Your lucky.....last time my laptop had the blue screen of death.....it needed rebuilding.....actually just remembered thats not true.....it blue screened about two weeks ago on start up.....but it had been running on battery and went into suspend mode.....so i guess the battery gave up before it had finished 'suspending'.....its got a knackered battery in it......will run for 20mins max on battery.
