yo i've got a manuel 2.5td elite estate and love it it's been well looked after and never thrashed for the 119.000 miles  it has done, dont know about the 1st 6000 cause it was owned by a chief exec of vaux. It seems pretty quick to me but would like to chip it, how much is it likely to cost?

i think if GM had of fitted the 3.0 V6 CDTi to the late omega's instead of the 2.2DTi then that would be a serious speed machine! problably quicker than a 3.2 V6 Petrol lol that 3.0 v6 is pushing 400+nm tourqes!

.......  If I could get a 2.5TD manual Elite saloon,  ......

Mines manual and to elite spec now baring the rear view mirror  :P

Having had a fair share of V6's and ran a diesel for the last few months I'd have another diesel tomorrow over a v6. The only thing I miss is the sound and initial speed, everything else it does as well or better than the v6.
As a tow car the diesel is better, more economical and as a general cruiser I'll happily sit and do 500+ mile jouneys in it no bother.
From a maintenance point of view both engines have problems, but what dont?
My td has done 30k miles in 7ish months, its had new leak off pipes and an injector, it needs the exhaust gasket doing and its had a clutch.
It does get serviced every month at the stealers as well!
In my mind its a good car taking into account the use it gets, towing the pikey palace or car trailer, or ask Ian, I can get it wound up pretty quickly!
I've just accepted a job where I'll be doing 80 miles a day, at least I'll have a comfy ride home, and its cheaper than the peasant carridge!

must admt its a shame most TD are gls spec but they are so easy to upgrade it doesent really matter, and the td definetly wins ofr economy and torque and maintenance in my book!!!!
although as mentioned before i am looking to get a newer one trouble is mine has only 120k on it now and needs nothing apart from a bit of paint here and there maybe i just ought to keep it!!!!

I  know im biased cause i hate the rather V6!! BEcause of years and years with the straight six 24v , BUT
The diesel mig is a hell of a tool really and a chipped one has around 325torques which is what gets you going yes i admit  it isnt a racing car but its plenty fast enough to drive clear across Spain in 10hours!!
bit i digress, where the diesel scores for me is the following
MPG always averages high 40,s and often more with a bit of care!
servicing yes i know 3.5k oil changes are a pain for high milers but they only take ten mins to do,  ;D
and you dont have to change the rubberbelt (kevlar reinforced but still break or the tensioner lets go)
air filter and fuel filter once a year and thats it!
no plugs to change, ;D no camcover leaks ;D no dis pack letting you down ;D no cranksensor dying at inopportune moments,  ;Dno cam sensor deciding it dont want to work anymore ;D no oil cooler filling the cooling system with mayonaise ;D and so on and so on, I know a lot of you love your V6,s  but its just so high maintenance for what it is?!!
JM2PW :y
Shite viscous fan, and the pointless viscous fan, not forgettign that stupid viscous fan.

That aside, very weak waterpump, awkward glow plugs, problematic stats, cooling system that sludges the rad up, lift pump issues, code 64 FIP issues, rather heavy lump making the car handle very 'pointy'. Oh, and did I mention that rather viscous fan!

All that said, I miss Project TB2/Tractor  :'(
No mention of the auto boxes  ::)

Needs chipping though, I assume that will add a bit of grunt for the take-off?    :D

A neighbour has a Diesel Passat and it rattles like noones business.

Another has a new Mondeo Diseasel and he was parked about 40 foot from me one morning with it idling and I couldn't hear my V6 over the clatter, and I was sitting in my car.

Having been the proud(ish) owner of a 2.5TD for the last couple of months, I think the engine is reasonably good, but I don't think it does it many favours being coupled to an automatic gearbox. (Does an auto box improve any engine???)  I'm quite capable of handling the different power/torque characteristics of a diesel engine, being an ex-lorry driver, but I'm not convinced the gearbox knows how to do it.

The auto box makes town driving dead easy, true - no fun, but dead easy, you just point and press.  Having done the run to/from my Dad's three times now, though (160 miles each way on the M5), I seem to find that at lower motorway speeds I'm working quite hard to keep the speed up, then once it hits 75 it seems to get the idea and I have to work to keep the speed down.  (Don't mention cruise control, I hate it with almost the same passion that I hate speed limiters on lorries, but at least I get to choose whether to put the cruise control on, ie never.)  I thought I'd got used to the Omega, and was actually starting to enjoy owning it, but on the way down to my Dad's on Friday, out of nowhere I suddenly started to wish I was driving something else.  For one thing I wish Vx had spent less money on electronic toys and had fitted springs between the roadwheels and my arse instead.

Maybe the petrols are different, maybe the manuals are different, but there's something about this car I don't like.  It looks beautiful, it's a nice motor to be seen in, it's luxurious inside, it's comfortable to sit in, it has lots of high-end gadgets in it, and I think the fuel consumption is very acceptable, it's a beautiful car right up until the moment I start to drive it, and then something goes wrong somewhere.

Petrol V6 is best - especially when it has a Granada round it!   ;D

Cant speak for the Granada but I had one of those Scorpio Ultima V6 Cosworth things, They made a nice noise.

Think my old Chipped BM 325 TD would have left it standing though.

Straight 6 diesel is okay - as long as it has a Scania round it!  12 litres, 480hp - lovely...   ;D
