Should she stay or should she go now...
« on: 15 May 2009, 21:37:00 »

I have a 2001 3.2 Elite Estate 83,000 miles which is really starting to cost money to keep on the road and I'm not sure whether to spend the money or scrap her.  I've spent over £2,000 over the last two years oil cooler, discs, wheel bearing, general servicing.
Now she needs:-
1. exhaust (mid boxes and rear silencer). Garage quoted £600.
2. front suspension bushes - vaux main dealer quoted me £650 to do these last year.  They seemed okay so didn't do them, but now getting a lot of juddering under braking. Replaced front discs one year ago so don't think its the discs.  I suppose at an independent might get them done for about £450.
3. two rear tyres needed £250 ish
Total £1,300 - 1,500.
Now thats probably more than the car is worth in good condition.  Now I don't want to get rid of her as I love the car.  I've had Omegas for 10 years and had this one since 2004.
So what do I do?  Sell on Ebay (honestly described of course!) for a few hundred quid and get a one year olf Zaf or spend the money on it? Any advice gladly appreciated as usual.

You're absoutley right, I'll regret selling it.  Buying tools woud be a good investment and I have my Haynes manual already.  Where can I get the exhaust from? I looked at one site and it listed the mid boxes, but not the rear silencer www.buypartsby.co.uk.

These jobbies are common enough issues on Omegas, personally I'd keep the car, and 'bite the bullet'

I knew I wouldn't get an unbiased opinion from you guys  ;D

Just remembered one more thing though - the exhaust emissions warning light stays on.  Is this because the pipes from the mid boxes aren't attached to the rear silencer any more?
