I always take my torque wrench and tighten them myself.

I told them I wanted the wheels torqued to 110NM, and the guy did use a torque wrench (I found that the big chains are more likely to use torque wrench than smaller tyre shops), so I have no reason to doubt him... so the wheels must be torqued correctly, no?

Trouble with ATS/Kwik-Fit/etc is that even though they do use a torque wrench, it's AFTER they've wound the bolts up to mega-torque with their windy guns. I once bent my Senator's solid wheel brace (as opposed to the crappy hollow handled Omega brace) trying to undo the wheel bolt after ATS fiited them. As I pointed out the the fitter when I took it back to them, it's a good job I wasn't on the hard shoulder in the p***ing rain unable to remove the wheel!

I broke one of my Halfords pro adpaters on a bloody Audi wheel bolt a couple of weeks back

Possibly does - they are 18mm, and most cheap socket sets do not come with 18mm sockets, hence rounding

However MJ using a torque wrench doesnt automatically mean the bolts are torque correctly......If the air gun is set to say 200Nm for example......when checked by the torque wrench at 110Nm....it will click straight away and therefore must be 110Nm.....er no. So unless you see the torque wrench turn a bit before it clicks.....there too tight

Exactly, just watch next time you go to a tyre fitters, bet all the bolts they torque click straight away, after using the air gun.
