Modern diesel cars are fantastic. I couldn't lose a golf TDI today, right up to 90.

Well I got rid of one of those on Saturday, on gas too

Today I dragged Maria around shopping a bit. Found an Autogas place in Newport, picked up a few LPG bits and peices - Olives and unions.

Also stopped by the VX stealer and picked up some spark plugs, new sump pan, and some other bits.

Stopped at B&Q, picked up a hole saw.

Then out came the tools. First job, was to find a good place in the bumper for the filler. I chose quite low down, drivers side, near the back. It was the only place I could get the pipework in behind it.

So, first job was to drill a big gaping hole in my bumper! A little daunting, but was easy enough.

Then I fitted the filler (swine) and plumbed it into the tank.

After that, went along to BP, for the first attempt at filling with LPG. Connected up the gun, so far so good. Pressed in the button... and...... ahhhhhhh....  a lovely sound, she started filling with gas.

at 44p/litre, The tank took just under 68 litres, which cost me £30    8-)

Flicked back onto LPG, and the injectors fired in again. Ran absolutely fine back to Maria's.

So, new spark plugs are to go in tomorrow, and hopefully it'll be job done  

Another good thing with LPG is your spark plugs and oil will last longer

In theory, but I will be sticking to the same service intervals.

Because LPG runs hotter, it actually shortens plug life..

In theory, but I will be sticking to the same service intervals.

Because LPG runs hotter, it actually shortens plug life..

Before I use an LPGd car..really service intervals interestingly become longer..And the oil remains clean .

I change mine (double electrode) every 10k  

I think Vx recommend them being changed every 40k on petrols but 20k on dual fuels.....so i half what vx reckon

IIRC the gauge was reading 3 bars when full too :-/

Have a play with the settings in the ECU, James. I suspect my guess at the sensor resistance was wrong

.. and 68 litres

That tank's full to the brim or the pump's lying to you! Supposed to be 54 litres to 80% isn't it?

Just don't leave it out in the sun when it's full....

Glad to hear it's complete though. Best get the man to give it a once over ASAP.

I'd also give it a once over with the lap top to check the fuelling's still OK once the new plugs are in. We did have a rear multiram issue when it was first done.

Oh, only one more thing, I need to adjust settings for the sender, because it was showing 3 lights when it ran out. But that's a 5 min job

The led fuel gauges are pretty crap tbh James......but three leds on is a bit too far out.

Mine usually does put the red led on before running out.....

Tho how i measure distance left is, i use the trip milometer......i know i can go 125miles about town or 200 on a motorway run.....  

Is that all? How big's the tank Dave?

Remember its a donut tank. underneath the boot floor.....it can only take 38L of LPG

Ahh, well, this particular issue was due to the pipe having "come adrift", while we were wrestling with the LPG wiring, no doubt . Judging by the whooshing noises coming from  it when underway I don't think there is another issue.

How much has it cost in total? A nice break-down of costs would be brill

James already had the tank from a breaker. The kit from Jeremy contained everything we needed for the front end and fuel plumbing to the rear down to the last hose clip. We had to buy a union to connect it to James' tank, which is fair enough. He didn't supply the tank. That and a new LPG filler was about 50 quid from the local LPG guy.

The one thing I would do differently next time is to ditch the piggy back wiring for the petrol injectors and make up a plug and socket on the LPG loom to mate with the multi-way plug and socket behind the 2,4,6 bank, because it was a bit of a struggle fitting all the piggy back connectors under the plenum and there was miles of spare cable on the LPG kit loom.

I'll let James provide the grand total as I didn't pay it but suffice to say that the front end will only need pennies spending on it once you have the kit. Back end depends on choice of tank. Probably another 200-300 quid if you buy new.

Cool...I bought a tank (and an older kit) a few weeks ago for £70. I might start installing that one until I get the newer setup.
