Could this be a gear box breather ???
« on: 18 June 2009, 19:16:58 »

Hi, thanks for your help with the HBV job done and no leaks now.
Whilst doing this I found a rubber pipe at the back of the engine going nowhere its about 13mm o/d and 6mm i/d has it got a home or should it just be left in space ?? is it a breather as the other end  seams to come from the auto gear box
Hope you can help again  :-[

I do believe its a breather and should be left alone. I recall reading it a couple of times here on the forum.
( If I'm wrong the guys will correct me ;))

It should be left attached and unblocked, but secured "up high". If it were to fall down it might just syphon all your gearbox fluid out !!!!

I would imagine the answer is yes (but don't quote me on that) but I don't see any real benefit as you still need to get the level plug out to know when you've put enough in :-? :-?
[edit]
Oh... And it'd be a royal PITA trying to get more than a thimble full of fluid down a pipe that size :o :o :o[/edit]
