All this talk of computers/Tech2/whatever.......forget that crap.

Wrap your hand around the top hose, you'll soon know if it's overheating or a false reading from the instrumentation.

I have a similar problem, noticed that the aux,fan is working but the main cooling fan apparently isnt, although for some reason when the ignition is switched off the fan starts up for a second and then goes off.going to check fuses eyc tomorrow.

thanks Entwood!(As you know im not technical!)I have tried with and without aircon. The fan that cuts in at just above 95 seems distinct from the aircon, and when i hit the eco button  (the engine idles a bit less )the other fan still seems audible clearly.
even with that fan, the temp climbs quickly, like in less than 5 mins, untill i  get up to a good speed.
thanks again

Sorry Entwood, just reread you...so that might imply that it is still water circulation...cos it overheats with no aircon very quickly! cheers

Yup .. that was my point really... if the fans are behaving as advertised then it is probably poor circulation .. although I have thought of something else  that would be speed affected  ... have you checked your radiator for blocked airways??? Like a piece of paper or a load of dirt ?? It could be that some part of the airpath inline with the fans is blocked, and the rest is clear so giving better cooling under ram air conditions.

Reverse washing with a decent pressure hose "might" clear the airways ???

Thanks Entwood, sorry if a little slow on the uptake!
taking the rad off is probly beyond me,so i may end up needing a new one, which would probly be ok if i could be sure thats what the prob is.I dont want to keep letting it overheat cos im sure worse will happen.

If i take it to a garage can they check it for hotspots or such like before i go ahead with that?
Thanks so much!

I think the best thing to do is do the cheap things first, ie flush out the radiator and engine block with something especially for that purpose (im sure there must be some products available but I have never had to do it so can't name any myself ! :-? Hopefully others will help you on that) and see if that helps. If not you may need to look at having the coolant pump done. They are supposed to be done periodically anyway as you mentioned.
Also try as much as possible not to let it overheat as you are risking warped heads and head gasket faileur every time that happens.

thanks Nially, already have flushed as fully as can,and this made little difference. So as you suggest im really looking to try the next cheapest thing.Im not sure how much water pump is to change or rad for that matter.Ive a bad feeling about those! :'(
With regards to temp i never let it go above 100(because of hg stories!),is that still safe enuf?
cheers

How did this start to run hot, was it just a coolant flush or did you flush it for a reason? I only ask as I am having hot running problems somtimes at the moment (mine had an oil cooler fail). Have tried several times to flush the system to no avail and have noe changed the rad as when I pulled out one of the sensors it was still covered iin oily goo.

Hi, mine was fine at speed, only ran up the scale when you slowed down. Turning the heater on helped, as did speeding again. Hills seemed to hurt it tho. Like I said despite flushin it a few times it got no better but it was covered in crap when i opened it up. Can you get a hose or 2 off to check inside as you dont know the history of why it started running hot. To soon to say if mine is fixed but it seemed better today, didnt move over 92 even when sat still outside the house, which it used to.
My fans work as they should and the coolant was always clear when I flushed it, but it was full of crud.
