Power sounder keeps going off
« on: 24 June 2009, 19:59:57 »

did it twice around 4 years ago in very heavy rain, been good ever since.

Then about 3am, and 4 times at lunchtime.

Tech2 showed no alarms had been triggered, and only 1 fault code - horn open circuit.

Power sounder sat on kitchen worktop, awaiting decision on whether or not its the batts, or if its just fubar.  Never heard any bleeping from it when turning off ign...

Mine goes off for no reason ,mostly when weather really hot.It did it yesterday three times but that was first time this year, and has not happened since..I think it is worth while having it..if only to prove it works.!

Mine never beeped, just went off all the time when driving!

Took it out and it's staying out.

3 options really ....

1. Leave it off ... but this "could" invalidate your insurance if you have stated a "factory fitted alarm" as part of your "proposal" .. if they ever found out which is highly unlikly IMHO.

2. New one from Vx .. around £60

3. Wait until "Welung666" has sorted out his repair service and get him to fix yours ..  £unknown.

:)

Chop it open and see if the batteries have leaked all over the PCB. If so, doubt it is worth trying to fix it. If not, maybe worth trying new batteries.

alarm still functional (except in my case, the alarm horn is also knackered!)

The following comments assume your insurance is taken out in a standard way .. a proposal form completed in pen or online .... and relate just to the PS .. not the knackered horn .. but I guess the same comments would apply .. :)

From an insurance point of view .. alarm is PARTIALLY functional .... :(  the "battery disconnect protection" .. which the PS is .. has been negated .. :(

Omega alarm reaches one of the Thatcham standards when fully functional.. and your insurance premium will be based on that .. as I'm guessing you will have ticked the box "factory fitted alarm" ...

Now it's pretty academic as the chances of the Insurers finding out that you've done this is actually remote .. but nonetheless that is the position ...

It is your choice and I'm not trying to preach ...

as Kevin says, imho. Cut it open, even he its only for a pic of a shagged one for the guide, if the board is fubar, bin it. If ok stick some new batterys in it, tape it back up and wack it in, and if your batterys are soldered in as mine and Kevins are, let us know where you get them from. :-) although i think Kevin has a supplier in mind. Would have thought the horn alarm would be fairly easy to get from a breaker? If you can be arsed oe course.

Mine went off the other day when i jacked the car up. Didnt know it had a level sensor? Might warn me if it gets bumped hard enough.

Watch these power sounders, if water gets to them (no inner wing or other problem) I have seen them melted to point of potential fire.

Personally, I would probably leave it out as the alarm will still fire the horn IIRC. You just won't have a battery backed horn.

That reminds me. I have several sets of pictures of "shagged ones" to post up, of both types.

Dont do like I did and disconnect the plug but not tape it up out of the way, hell of an expensive way to find that your inner wing drain is blocked......
