just hwat i thought i dont have that silver housing in front of my inlet manfold. is that a prob> :(
I would think you do mate, that is the stat. Probably covered in crap and all tarnished. The one in the link is a new one. Yours wont look like that.

Re stage 16 and the bastard bolt, go easy with the 10 mill spanner on a torx bolt. It will round off if you give it too much welly if its stiff. And when re fitting try and get the parts all lined up with a bradle type tool/scriber/nail or similar in the hole. Hold the parts firmly still with one hand, remove the tool from the hole with the other and fit the bolt, should go straight in....should. :-)

step 16 is the one that caused Martin the grief, I think.  Affectionately known as the B'astard Bolt.....  Loads of fun and amusement for the over 12's....   ;D

 :y

Mine rounded - so I left it for two years until I did the valve seals

Nope rounded bastard bolt

Mind you I had to fit new valve seals else I would have taken the thermostat out without removing the CTP

How would you replace the thermostat without removing the coolant transfer pipe?

Yep, you can fit stat and link pipe as one item, if stripped to this level for other works  :y

EGR nut off and EGR valve unplugged
Rear plenum breather hoses off
Throttle and cruise cables off
Rear multiram connector and vacc line off
Idle control valve and connector off
2 x Front air intake hoses off
2 x passenger side cable tray bolts off
4 x plenum bolts out, and remove air intake plenum

6 x torx bolts removed for upper manifold. E12 socket required and mid length extension bar.

Fuel injector connector off (large connector at rear of engine, connected to upper manifold).

Lower inlet divider off (more torx bolts!)

Rad hose off the coolant transfer pipe.

Bolt on the front side of the 2-4-6 head removed, (bolt that holds the dipstick tube, lifting eye and coolant transfer pipe).

Coolant transfer pipe seperated from stat housing, and removed.

Stat housing removed, with 2 torx bolts.

Re-fitting is reverse of removal, just ensure all mating faces are clean. Plenum bolts 6nm, ensure all O rings are kept.

It's a job that can be done DIY and will take a couple of hours  :y

Should have had the thermostat changed as a precaution when the cam cover gaskets were done then. :-? :( :'(

Can't agree with that, changed for a hex head, now can undo with a normal ring spanner, and if required a hammer!
