Removing Security Bolts
« on: 29 June 2009, 10:55:33 »

How on earth can I remove said bolts from my alloys without the key? I know this is the whole point of them but I've searched in the car and cannot find the key anywhere. They look like OEM Vauxhall one's

Anyone got any ideas? It means I can't take the wheels off to adjust the handbrake. Garage that did my MOT said 'oh it might be the brake shoes' - I don't trust garages full stop so I want to try adjusting it first. If it still needs adjusting well I can fit the shoes myself.

there are a few tricks involving hammering on under sized sockets, drilling etc.

Best bet is to find a tame tyre outfit who often have the specialist tools for this and get them to remove them.

you may be able to get a replacement key from Vauxhall as well.

I had the same problem, and found a VX owner with the same set of locking nuts, used his key to remove mine, and then replaced with a new set. In my case it was easy my next door neighbour has a Vectra, and his were the same.

Any good tyre place may have the kit to remove them for you at minimum cost.  Quite a common thing.

what melon did that to a wheel? Can you not just buy a new key? If you dont have the key number is it not on car pass etc? Failing that if the key is original with the factory fit security bolts dont vx keep a record of the key number?

Woah thats drastic  :o - I'm not doing that! My alloys are fairly tidy.

I don't even have a car pass. Made decoding the radio fun. If I can't work out a way of getting them out myself then I'll send it down the garage. Would rather not have to though.
