2.2 Downpipe Removal
« on: 05 July 2009, 17:52:00 »

Just to double check, to remove the downpipe on the 2.2 omega, i can just remove these 2 bolts which hold the downpipe to the manifold?

I just sprayed them with WD40 @MDTM i know WD is not a penetrating oil but its the best i have.

I plan to pop these two bolts off, and again after the second cat before the exhaust, and remove that whole section.

There are 4 bolts on the manifold flange, you ca remove the rear 2 and just loosen the front 2 (the one closest to the block is a pain in the @rse to get at), then it's the 2 joining it to the middle section and a bolt just after the curve on the front of the floor pan. You'll need the front fairly hight to swing the pipe off the 2 loosened manifold bolts. I find it easier (as I don't raise the car by much) just to take all 4 off :P

Look down from above the battery and you'll just about see the front 2, the rear 2 are on the back 2 corners of the downpipe flange. :y

No need to take the heatshield off, the front 2 bolts are just above the engine mount mounted heat shield just inside the curve (block end) and near the other end. The awkward one I tend to use 1 13mm open ended spanner and slacken off until finger tight but careful you don't drop it LOL

Did you also remove the pre cat leccy connector?

Assume its best to disconnect on the connector rather than remove the sensor from the cat?

Yea, because I was removing the whole cat section I just unplugged the 2 lambdas. Front one is behing the head, rear is plugged in near the selector switch on the gearbox.

Are you just opening the manifold joint to re-seal or taking the whole pipe off?

Thought you might be taking it off completely. Leave the centre support bolt till last as it'll hold the heaviest bit (I.E. the cats) in place until you're ready :y
