Speedo/Rev Counter malfunction
« on: 03 July 2009, 22:16:31 »

A few days ago I got into the car and on switching on the ignition my speedo sat at zero flickering rapidly. It then ceased to work but a few minutes later was fine.

Today, I find the speedo nor the rev counter works, they just sit there. I'm thinking a loose connection on the multiplug, have tried to press the clocks back and tapped the dash top to no effect.

The ABS and TC lights are NOT on

Any ideas?

Thanks

dash out i guess. Guide in maintenance as im sure you know. My old cdx had a dicky moment once but only after i had removed it to change a dash bulb. The tape/circuit board was very close to not lining up the with the pins on the plug. Should be able to see the pin marks on the tape. In my case just re seating sorted it. Failing that...?

I had the same problem a while back, various theories put forward but basically it's most likely component failure in the cluster. Or just push the dash in hard and hope it's a dodgy connection!

My tale:

The dash is well easy to get out, once the vents are prized off anyway, but what i've found so far is that dash's from 1996 cars don't seem to want to work with a 1999 one.  :(

Vectra Elite Estate doing good post-Omega service but still not as nice to sit in.

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!

Thanks fellas

Will pull the dash out tomorrow. Give that a go, if not will try to source another clocks unit. Am I correct in thinking the proper mileage can be programmed into the new clocks using a Tech 2?

It's not an electronic dash unit so there is no need for a tech 2 you can do it yourself  :y

And how do you diy?

But if it's not electronic, how come there's no cables coming from it, just that connector thingy - which looks electronic to me! :-/

Well I've pulled it out today, tried to clean up the contacts as well but nothing. Still sits there flickering so assuming the clocks are dead.

Just realised I cannot post a Wanted ad in said section either, don't have enough posts  :-/

PM Markey Mark, he breaks Omegas for breakfast  ;D

He should have a V6 dash, remember 4pot dashes are not suitable.

Check your fuses as well!  If I remember correctly with mine when this failure occurred, it was either No 12 or 19 fuse that had blown.  Yours may have worked loose, hence the earlier flickering. ;) ;)

I think he means the actual odometer bit. The odometer is the old fashioned numbers on a mechanical barrel rather than LCD display eg Astra G. Digital can be Tech II'd for 'milage correction' .......  ::)

Thanks Lizzie, alas it is not. They are both fine. The needle flickers constantly with ignition on now. Only after it is switched off and you wait 10secs does it stop, and then it doesn't return to zero, stops around 5mph.

Thanks tunnie, will do so now.

So does it need Tech 2 or can it be done by other means?
