Tech Diagnostics
« on: 07 August 2009, 11:36:53 »

Hi
Not the Omega  ;) but son's 96 astra 1.8 Sport.
Done the head gasket, but now it idles like a dog. Higher revs it runs smooth. Management light is on. I have checked timing etc and all seems in order. I removed cam sensor and car runs the same without it in situ.
However resistance checks appear ok.
So anyone know if there is somewhere in Northampton we can get a diag machine hooked up?
Really need this sorting so I can get to my Miggy.

Just paperclip tested it
comes up 12,16,19,
Would 16 Knock sensor be routine code if engine not running?
and would it run like its on 3 cylinders?

the 16 is knock sensor, check the wiring, that will cause the EML to come on.

the 19 is the crank sensor, wont bring the light on, but causes rough running, and/or total breakdown!

so both need fixing.

12 is start of codes.

both only show if a true fault occurs, so dont ignore either  :y

looks like it will be worth replacing crank sensor. Can do Knock sensor after as apparently doesn't cause this kind of rough running.

knock sensor won't have much effect until the revs build up.

Crank sensor is a possibility (ideally, clear the codes, see what comes back), but I'd probably be looking ofr air leaks after the work thats been done
