My First Omega <3
« on: 26 August 2009, 04:10:09 »

Just to let you know before I start this is my first post.

Hello OOF, how are you?

I've been an Omega fan for quite a while now and I've took a liking to the MV6(s). Before I waste my money learning about these things I've decided to buy a cheaper Omega.

My friend is selling his Omega for a little more money to add to his savings for a new car (Volkswagen Golf 2.8 V6 4motion). Another reason for selling is that he also cannot be bothered fixing a few problems with it.

Details:
- 2000
- Omega CDX
- 2.5 V6
- Automatic
- Saloon

Comes with:
- 6 Months TAX
- 6 Months MOT
- Full Service History

Also everything the trim has e.g:
- Electric Mirrors, Heated Seats, Sunroof & Windows
- Wooden Facia
- Alloy Wheels
- CD/Radio
- Climate Control
- Central Locking
- Power Steering

Now the problems:
- Engine oil leaking
- PAS pump faulty
- Transmission fluid seal/bung missing
- Bootlid & Rear bumper damaged (He recently reversed into a wooden-post which has left a nice imprint into the rear of the car ;D)

Considering the problems, he's done me deal for just £400 because he was going to scrap it (I don't know why he do such a thing!).

Upgrades I have in mind:
- Blue LED upgrade kit (Converts: Speedometer, Mileage display, Center computer display, LCD heater display, Ashtray & Cigarette lighter)
- Hunt for leather interior (Heated seats, side panels etc.)
- Sports filters (Air, Oil, Fuel)
- Sports exhaust
(More to come!)

Now having read parts of these forums, I have a few questions for OOF:

1. Is this a good deal?
2. Can this engine oil leak or is it too much of a problem? (I've been told most garages hate working on V6's)
3. Any particular PAS pump I need? & rough price?
4. Where to find a Transmission fluid seal/bung? & rough price?
5. Rough price for Bootlid?
6. Rough price for Rear bumper?
7. Rough price for Leather interior?
8. What difference do sports filters make? (Air, Oil & Fuel)
9. What difference does a sports exhaust make? Rough price?

Thanks alot,
Alex

Alex welcome to the site :y.

Could you resize your avatar or remove it as we can't read the post due to it covering up some of it :(.

PS. Looks like you've already done it ;).

Alex, hard to say if a good deal or not, depends on how much work/cost involved in putting it right :-/.

As for oil leak have you checked to see if the camcover gaskets are leaking, look for oil in the plug wells and if so will probably need the breather system cleaning out(look in maintenance section for how to)and gaskets replacing(use genuine parts only, also in M/section) :y

As for sports air filters fairly frowned on as a bad idea due to sucking in hot air from the engine bay :(.

You can ask on here for help with pricing parts if an admin will put in the right section for you as you have to have a certain amount of posts up before this is allowed, but no harm asking :y

    HTH,
           Pete :).

Sounds a bargain  :y

I'd think twice on the blue LED's  they dont work very well for a lot of the illumination, resulting in bad light in the day, and dazzled at night.  a lot of light pipes relying on traditional bulbs.

as said, any parts you want, place an wanted post in the test section, where it may be moved to the correect area  :y

Seeing as you have a few things you need to replace it maybe worth getting a trade card, I saved the membership fee in the first few visits to the dealer. £20 a year with http://www.autobahnstormers.org/.

Reguarding the oil leak, as mentiond could be your camcover gaskets, not too expensive with a tc. Also check to make sure the sump nut isn't leaking.

This is a rough guide for prices on various omega parts with a tc http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1249990417/0#0

have a look at the service history and check when the cambelt was last changed, vx recommend 40k miles/4years, whichever is sooner.
