My crankshaft bearing makes a sqeaky sound and I wondered is it easy to lubricate without dismantling? It starts to make the noise after the engine has been running for 20 minutes plus.
I presume it is the crankshaft bearing (It sits at about 5 o'clock to the alternator.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated!

The crank shaft is the big one right at the bottom. It has quiet a few bearings, but not one that will squeak. If one does ... you've got real problems!     
Try running your car without the 'fan belt' - not too long though cos your water pump is driven by it - and see if it makes any difference to your squeak and go from there.

could be u need a oil change, filter cloged, check dip stick for a white or yellow colour, and allso check it viscosity ( how it moves in your fingers) if rough change the oil and filter, other thing that sounds like the crank making a sound it the timing belt retainer, usually start making a noise when they start getting hot.

The noise is coming from the crankshaft area but i can't be 100% sure it is the cuprit. Oil and filter change done 3 weeks ago.
Cambelt, tensioners and water pump was changed in dec. 2007 - 17,000 miles done since then. Car at 87,000 miles now.
If it is the timing belt retainer is it easy to fix?

as long as u lock the engine top and bottom about 5mins, the are just bearings, have to keep the timing locked in its marking. p.s would do the timimng belt if not been done yet save u any more problems coming up later as it will be locked into place.

If it's the 'fan belt'/auxillary belt, there's no timing involved at all.  15 mm socket/spanner on the retaining bolt and lever to the right (as you stand in front of the car) and ease the belt off all the pullies & out of the way. Start the engine & see if the noise has gone away. If so it's one of the auxillarues. If not it could be one of the cam belt tensioners, in which case you will need to delve deeper ASAP before the belt/tensioners give up & you need a 'new' engine' .... or 24 valves at the very least.

Thanks guys. This is not something i feel i can do myself without messing up - i need to get someone to look at this (and a few other things soon). I am due to do a couple of 200 mile trips over the next 2 weeks so will keep my fingers crossed.

well we will to but on safe side get RAC or AA etc, cose if it is somthing to do with cambelt u may need help to get home. finger crosed. [smiley=thumbup.gif]

I'd assumed there was a proper engine installed!!!

may have a spare car in there they are shrinking these days. lol
