a 'cool' running stat is not going to make any significant improvment in performance, it will just waste fuel

I dispair with some of these modifications that these so called 'performance' companies sell.

A cool running stat wont do jack.

And engines temp is far more to do with the cooling capability of the rad and the 92-93 DegC setting for the standard setup gives a pretty much ideal setup for this power unit

The V6s prefer to run warm - a waste of time

im not looking to improve the performance i would just like me migger to run a bit cooler as occasionally esp in stop start traffic the temp goes up to 100 with fans working.

the  cooling system has been flushed. so should i think about trying a new standard stat and new radiator?

on motorways and long drives the temp sits just above 92 rarley rising to 95 so maybe im being a drama queen? :-[ ::)

any help please :y

as long as it does not go past 100 you will be fine.

ahh there in lies the problem which is rattling me as it does nudge over the 100 bar  :(

after being on A1 getting into london the temp spike intermittently often pushing past 100 for 5-10 mins before coming down when i move but when i sit again temp begins hunting for 100 again :-?

so im thinking now i should just buy and fit new stat and rad cos this will keep bothering me knowing i could do something about it >:(

If the problem is only really occurring when stationary or in slow-moving traffic, surely your first port of call should be to ascertain 100% that your radiator fan(s) are doing exactly what they are supposed to be.

You'd be well hacked off if you went to all the trouble and expense of buying/fitting thermostats and radiators that made no difference at all.

the fans do work and they do all three of them! i seen the blast of air clear a puddle from under the car before!

when i got my migger end of march it had been sitting since last sept and when i drove it at first it constantly overheated after flushing this stopped but im concerned that maybe the rad isnt fully flushed/has a severe blockage,  so if i get a new one i at least know that is no longer an issue :)

If it is running hotter than normal then fix the problem rather than fitting a cooler stat. Both the original and cool stats will be fully open at 100 degrees c - so how is it going to help?

Bear in mind that you won't have a problem until 115-120 degees C because the boiling point of the coolant is raised both by the antifreeze and the pressure in the cooling system.
