Does it rev over 4k rpm? Assuming not as you said its in limp mode. Can still be the gearbox, its like a safe mode for it.

One advantage with the 4 pots is that if the cam sensor goes, the car will keep going, only at reduced speed. On the V6's, the engine dies and that's it.

Changing it is fairly easy, if I remember its at the front of the engine just under the belt cover.

To accurately diagnose it you need a Tech 2 or a good code reader (not the Elm 327 ones) there were some cheap chinky ones on fleabay, that were a copy of a moderately expensive one, but we don't talk about them..............

Any half decent code reader should give you the codes, sounds very similar to what happened with mine, would drive ok then just not rev past a certain amount no matter how much i floored it. Changed sensor and hey presto all fine now.

As said before i think part was about 60 quid. But someone local may pop over and read codes for you, don't start spending money on changing parts till your sure thats what it is :y

Bushwacker, I'm only in Dudley and can read/clear the codes for you. If it proves to be the crank sensor (as I also believe it is) then I'll talk you through changing it too :y

i seem to have the same problem with my 2.2 , but only seems to go into limp mode when the engine is started and its hot if i start the car when the engine is cold it will start fine.....is that a sign of the cam sensor going?

Do you get any warning lights on the dash, would advise getting the codes read better safe than sorry :y
