« on: 08 November 2009, 20:00:40 »

Basically the heater is stuck pointing at the windscreen, nothing changes when I turn the dial, the diagram in haynes ain't much help as I can't find where the main vacuum feed comes from?

As far as I recall, if you delve around above the pedals in the drivers footwell, you'll find where the alloy heater-matrix pipes come through the bulkhead.  In amongst them, you'll find one or two vacuum hoses coming from/going to the engine bay.

The yellow* one of these is the source of the vacuum that is used to power the various flaps that direct the airflow in the cabin.  It has possibly become disconnected at the point where it comes through the bulkhead.

*Check colours against what Haynes says, my memory ain't what it once was.

Hope this helps.  :)

Forget the drivers foot well for the time being, concentrate on the engine bay vac pipes, its an order of magnitude more likely that this is where the likely cause will be.

Check for disconnected pipes and damaged pipes.

Also, please state if you have manual controls or climate control.

Manual controls, I did check and found a few disconnected pipes, but there wad no vacuum felt when the engine was running, a wee silly one that runs to some sort of actuator located just behind the radiator
