Hi, quick question,

Does anyone know the size and length of the bolt that holds the battery securely to its tray. I changed my battery the other day and sheared the bolt undoing it. I guess I could just drill out and use a nut and bolt but would rather use the prescribed method. Cheers.

Is it worth worrying about? There's precious little room for the battery to move around anyway is there?

Yes, you are dead right in saying that someone will come on.........
Fact is that is a requirement of the MOT to have the battery secured!
Quite apart from that the bolt is a standard 8mm setscrew, that is it is threaded from the head to the end. I reckon it is about 40-45mm long and goes through a metal bracket that locates on the side mouldings of the battery at its base.
The easiest way is to drill the bolt centre that is still visible as big as you dare without destroying any threads and then give it a good old soak in wd for a few hours. After that just drive a file tang or whatever elseyou can  that is suitable into the hole and twist it clockwise until the snapped off bit goes completely through. It will be easier than trying to turn it out as though loosening it! Quick clean up of the threads with a tap and jobs done. Done it before so I know it works! Put a dose of grease on the new bolt to prevent this re-occurring.
Hope that helps, just get it secured to be safer than sorry later.

I knew it was an MoT requirement and it also secures a section of wiring harness. I may just pick up an M8 nut and bolt and drill through.

Most kind Andy but I live in Skelmersdale so a fair way from Bury. Plus the fact that I've been unable to use my car since Monday due to the weather makes a trip a bit unfeasible. Thanks anyway.

Do you mean a 13mm spanner or socket will fit the bolt head?
If so the bolt will be an 8mm threaded bolt.
The length is around 25mm long.

If the bolt has broken and you can't remove it with grips etc.... try and make a flat spot on the top of the broken bolt, either file or grinder. Used a small drill 1/8 (or 3mm) of an inch as a pilot drill. Then go slightly bigger each time. When you have drilled with about a 6.8mm drill bit, use an 8mm tap.
Job done.
