Gas guzzlers

Why does everyone in government in any country anywhere in the world drive/get driven round in the biggest gas guzzlers they can find? Surely an example should be set.

Most of the Govermnet Office's in London do use the Toyota Prius, but the electric motor only kicks in if your doing less then 30mph and have enough charge in the system also I recently read a report saying that the Toyota Prius is not that green as they are all build in Japan and it would take 3 years just running on the batteries alone to offset the carbon just to ship it to the UK

The batteries are supposed to last for 7 years, whihc is pretty good for Nimh cells, however there will be a huge toxic waste problem getting rid of the old ones. Oh, and you have to charge the battery every 2 weeks if its not being used or else it dies. Plus they are made by Panasonic, didn't they make the cells used in Dell laptops that tended to got a bit hot?

The top people us them as to allow a fast get away if trouble should strike, also the amount of plating that goes into the body requires a bit of power to allow the get away.
