Excessive Cranking On My TD
« on: 10 March 2010, 20:41:15 »

Evening all

Thanks to Autoglass I wont have my car back on the road till not long before April, and to say im a bit pee'ed off is an understatement.

But it gives me a chance to look at another problem. i completed the headgasket only a couple of days ago but due to having no MOT have been unable to do more than a blast around the block, but there seems to be a small problem, it takes about 5 seconds of cranking before it will fire, longer if cold. It used to literally be half a second and go, not any more.

Anyone come across this before and found a solution, or anyone got any ideas on what could be wrong?

As ever, thank you.

Are those the short rubber pipes that run between each injector?

have you knocked a wire(s) off the glowplug(s) when doing the h.g.
did it start ok before the h.g was changed.

yeah, it started fine before the h.g and it also started fine when it had the dodgy h.g on it for a couple of hours. All the glow plug wires look good and attached.

Its not like im worried it won't start, its just as though its self bleeding every time.

My first TD was just like that too.
And that was even after a brand new injection pump!
I never did fathom this out, and there were no codes stored either.

My latest TD is absolutely 'on the button' - always :y

Well it wasnt a fool proof plan but I have found that if I put mine in gear and releas the handbrake I feal as though it starts on the button more often, could just be my car and compresion down or somthing just thought it might be of use for sombody.
