V6 Engine
« on: 10 March 2010, 14:00:56 »

I have a 99 3.0 v6, getting pretty fed up with getting the rocker gaskets done.  Do all the v6's suffer from the same fate?  Was thinking about up grading to the 3.2.
Has anybody tried this?  Is it and easy conversion??

All the Omega V6's suffer, so no gain going to 3.2.  (just a lot of pain, very different setup, drive by wire etc)

Have you had the breather system cleaned?  That being neglected is the normal cause of the gaskets letting go.

If you're having frequent problems with the cam cover gaskets it points to a blocked breather system.

Also, it's a false economy to use pattern gaskets.

The GM ones ain't cheap but they're a perfect fit every time.

Did a major service on mine at the weekend. I have noticed the distinctive smell of oil on exhaust a few times recently so was not surprised to find that the breathers were blocked.

The usual advice is that once the cam covers have started to leak then they won't cure themselves but I did the 500 mile round trip to London and back without a wiff of hot oil AND it seems to be more economical too  :y

They told me that years ago when I got my first V6 and I believed them  >:(

Someone will give you the part numbers if you ask nicely (or you should be able to find them in a recent thread if you can work the search function)

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564281  :y  :y

You will need:

A Good Tool kit which includes a selection of Torx sockets

Rocker gaskets: 90511451, one set per bank (£25+ Vat retail)
O-rings: 90411826, 8 per bank (13p+ VAT retail)
Gasket, Inlet bridge to head: 90501652, 2 off
Gasket, Inlet to Inlet bridge: 90501653, 3 off
Gasket, Inlet to Plenum O rings: 9118135, 6 off
Sealent, Black (not the Green stuff!): 90485251, 1 off

It is essential to use original Vx camcover gaskets, pattern parts dont last, fit badly and are often rock hard and squashed flat after 4 months running. Its your risk !!

I bought all the parts, including just the gaskets, last weekend from the dealer with no problems.  Still yet to do the job though

just copied this from the above thread, are these the prices for the genuine VX ones?  I have been quoted £62.00 each plus vat for them!!
After the last experience I'll not be buying any of the cheap ones again!!

Is the rocker top something that tends to go on these engines?  Is there problem that they warp slightly??
