Air con compressor questions
« on: 23 March 2010, 18:35:53 »

How hard is to change the compressor or what's involved (I know about the gas issues) mechanically. What would be the rate be. for a garage to change it and is it worth buying a second hand one of fleabay.
I suspect mine is leaking, had it regassed last week (very cold then) but a week on I am not so sure???

did the guy who did the re-gass use the dye in the system,if he did then go back and he will be able to see where your leak is with the lamp that they use. There are lots of places that the system can leak at besides the compressor

get an a/c pro involved - can use a sniffer to find leak.

Why do you think its compressor?  Could be a nš of items on the system that can leak.

Compressor not too hard to get off/refit - you need a helper and a few extensions to undo pipe from top of compressor - then we had to bar anti-rool bar to clear compressor to get it out and back in.  Usual reasons to swap compressor are clutch failure or bearing failure.
