Omega 3.0 Elite Rear Springs
« on: 23 March 2010, 14:25:47 »

Hi Guys,

I have a March 2000 (facelift) Omega 3.0 elite saloon (without self-leveling).

One of the rear springs has gone and I managed to retrieve the top section that broke off from the road.

My local parts store stated 'all omega rear springs are the same' and showed me a one in stock.

Comparing their spring to the broken off section, it was far thicker than mine. The diamater appeared (guessing as I have not taken the spring off my car yet) to be wider too?

Are 3.0 Elite's fitted with different springs?

My car sits much lower than 2.2's that I see!

Yours,

Andy :-/

the only omega with different springs BY DEFAULT is the MV6, facelift only.
(there are heavy duty 'police' ones too, and iirc the self leveling setup has different springs)

There is no knowing what has been added to your car aftermarket though.

If the spring on yours is "thinner" .. might explain why it broke !!! so the car might have some cheap "lowering" things on

I'd go for "proper" ones .. and replace both .. all suspension components should be replaced in pairs .. :)

As per Jimbob's reply, but also self levelling Elites have a different GM part number for their rear springs as against those Elites that don't have self levelling. So your parts store is wrong!!

They are NOT the same as your elite will have self leveling...and hence a different (and thinner) spring

Thanks guys,

I have not noticed my car having self-levelling suspension? How would I find out?

Vauxhall quoted £300 +VAT for two rear springs!

Cheers

snap!!!!!!!!!!!!! my 2.2 dti cdx failed the MOT last week on same thing, it had been broke for a while judging how rusty the snapped area was, money is tight at the moment got one off  ebay for £28 delivered, ordered it sunday it arrived today, going to fit it this week and get MOT, only changing the one as the car ran ok with a broken one, normally tho i would change suspension parts in pairs

Have a look at the following on the forum:-

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1259003779
Gives details on self levelling suspension

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1170939305
Gives details of how to change rear springs

If it is self levelling get  a pair of KYB springs part no RJ6227 from a supplier (much cheaper than Vauxhall prices and just as good)

Right i've come up with the following part numbers but there is a chassis number change so they might be out

Saloon, no self level, Pt/No 90542359 £180.09 + VAT

Saloon, with self level, Pt/No 90295666 £176.02 + VAT

Thats for a pair of springs but i would need either a reg number or chassis number to confirm

Oh postage £6.90 + VAT, UK mainland

Cheers

Thanks for the great advice.

A Vauxhall Parts Dept. has stated the following:

'Many 3.0 Elite Omega's were manufactured with 'Police Spec'. The suspension and springs are different. Some were even armoured and Vauxhall has the springs for such vehicles. The vauxhall computer lists seperate part numbers for both civilian and police 3.0 Elite vehicles. It does not tell me if your vehicle is police issue or armoured'

The dealership also confirmed that my vehicle has self-levelling supension.

Local auto shop quotes £60 for part no. cs23067 whatever that may be?

Andy, I know that they changed at the facelift for the likes of the sport chassis.

Any chance you can post a paste of the EPC listings?

Hello,

When changing the rear spring is there anything I have to disconnect in relation to the Self-levelling supsension?

I don't want to damage anything nor create fault codes that I cannot erase?

Cheers,

Andy.
