My windscreen washers are not working properly as the stream only just reaches the windscreen.
Checked for leaks (none that I can see), and cleaned the rubber filter/grommet thingy (was clear anyway) - is it time for a new pump?

If you've clean out the filter/grommet, checked each nozzle is clear than maybe it is time for a new pump. Have you checked that the pipe isn't trapped anywhere along its length?

If the jet of water is "limp" (ie, it curves on it's way to the screen from the nozzle), then it will be as Andy said (blocked filter/blocked pipes/weak pump).

If the jet is visibly "strong" (ie, nice straight line from nozzle to screen), then use a pin to adjust the aim of the washer nozzles.

I had this problem, it was a kinked pipe right by the bonnet hinge.

May be the pump, apparently they are a fairly common item to wear out. If you canot hear a lively whirr from behing the front numberplate, when washers are operated, then the pump may be seizing. To change you'll need to take the bumper grill and crossmember off. Its not that difficult. Push the pump away from the resevoir and pull out. Tenner delivered on e*ay

Thanks for all the advice guys - so I'll check for kinks (in the pipe  ), adjust the nozzles and if all else fails I'll get a new pump - they're only a fiver off ebay.

You  definitely don't need to remove the bumper and it's back plate) The only thing you need to remove on a pre-facelift car is the grille, you can then see the pump. As you then say, lever/push away from the bottle (shove a pencil in the hole if you want to keep your screen wash  ) and go easy in this cold weather you don't break anything else. A kettle of warm water will help to soften the wash pipes to allow removal from the old pump.

Never seen one wear out yet

I'd to replace mine last year, the water jet would just about hit the bottom of the screen when I was stopped. No obvious signs of wear inside it, but a new one sorted it. .....

Listen to pump. If sounds to be running 'normally' then pin in jets and look for kinks where the pipe goes into bonnet

The alternative to that, is to break into the discharge pipe - passenger side wing - from the pump, run it & see if there's a good flow & pressure of water.

As an update I fixed the problem by adjusting the nozzles - didn't realise they could be adjusted - you live and learn - thanks for all the replies
