« on: 19 April 2010, 07:51:11 »

This funny noise my car has, if it is as above, how much work to fix?

Thanks

That's what I meant, if you can remove conrods, they have to unbolted so that'd mean shells could be changed.
What makes you think the bearings are shot?  :-/

Aghhhh!

Quiet all the way to work.

Stuck in R and it started.

Parked up still going.

Lifted the bonnet and the mechanics over the road had a listen under bonnet.

That sounds fine - no knocking noise ::) ::) ::) ::)

Maybe it's a transmission issue?

If its a knocking in drive .. perhaps its the rubber bushes for the drive shaft allowing too much movement ??

Its not the iron vibrating on that ironing board someone has bolted to the boot is it?

Really doesn't sound like big ends to me if the noise is coming and going. Would expect big end noise to be based on load, and always there, or at least there once the oil is hot.

Worth checking the torque converter to driveplate bolts are tight, and all present?

It is hot when noisy and not under the bonnet, almost like something was hitting the body.

Does it when stationary as well.

Might record it later

Is the engine moving at all ?? could be a worn engine mount ??

Loose exhaust bracket/hanger ??

Engines tend to "rock" more at idle than at higher RPM ... if something is slightly loose it could cause contact ?????
