My Glove box isn't chilling....
« on: 07 May 2010, 22:42:12 »

Having got the A/C working on my Omega I was disappointed to find that there isn't an option to have the glove box chilled. Two questions..

1) Was this ever a feature on Omegas?
2) If it was an option are glove boxes interchangeable between all versions and what would be a good doner model?

TIA

It was standard on Omegas with air/con up to minifacelift. My minifacelift has the knock outs where the slide would be. I had thought about looking at to see if it could be retro-fitted ....... but that was as far as I got.  ::)

Ah, so would that glove box fit a full face lift model? After working for so long to get the A/C going I want to make full use of it. ;D

err? Pass. :-/ Even the glove boxes between the prefacelift & minifacelift are slightly different ie earlier cars have 4 fixings & minifacelift have 5.
I'd have thought the cold air feed would the the thing to sort first, the glove box just requires a hole in the back & a slide fitting.  :y

Fair point. When I figure out how to get the glove box out I'll have a look see. Thanks...

Well I have some long trips coming up in June, days out to the seaside etc so would be useful to keep drinks in on the way.

would a small 12v coolbox be a better option?

well insulated, get more in, and you can take it with you...

My Senator's chilled glove box would keep chocolate bars cool on a hot day. Nothing worse than a melted chocolate bar .... apart from 2 melted chocolate bars  ;)

This might be cheating but I have an electric cool box.
I put it in the boot and connect it to the rear 12v supply.
It works really well ( can also switch to warm - so warm bacon butties for the first stopon a run -I always leave very early) and then cold drinks (large bottles) later - cheaper than those pesky cans.

That's what we do, you can barely get a mars bar in the glove box anyway.
