I assume this is different for countries with a colder climate?  If not, a severe design defect.  I can only imagine that anyone who lives in, say, Canada with a Catera must need a new Air Con COmpressor every couple of years!  :-/

Nope, any car with air-con needs have its compressor run regularly

Precisely my point.  If it WONT run below 8celcius, then the Winters in some countries, it will never fire, causing damage.
