2.2 misfire and cutting out
« on: 25 July 2010, 18:34:17 »

lo guys.

A long time since I've been on here, nice to be back.

My ex-meega, a 2002 2.2 CD auto now belongs to my lad and he's having a problem with it misfiring on occasions.

It seems to happen under very damp conditions only. On starting the car, sometimes reluctantly the engine seems to be firing on 3 pots or so and the emissions light (engine symbol not car and spanner) comes on. If the engine is turned off and re-started, maybe at the 3rd attempt the engine runs normally with no light.

We've plugged in a code reader but there are no codes stored. Strange I know but there you are.

Can anyone suggest any causes for this please?

Thanks in anticipation, Steve.

I suspect its water from the scuttle getting round the coil pack.

Pull the coil pack and look for evidence of water being presence

yup, the seal around the bottom of the wiper arm lets in water than can drip onto the engine, through the eco tech cover and into the plugs  :y

Thanks to both of you guys, this makes perfect sense.

I guess the obvious remedy is to replace the wiper arms seals then.

Again, cheers for that.  :y

I believe the general fix for this is silicon sealant piped around the underside of the scuttle/wiper seal & centre joint on scuttle also? :y

Nothing wrong with motor, smear of silicon sealant around the base, where the scuttle meets the wiper arm   :y
