Waiting for my MAF :(
« on: 15 August 2010, 23:52:54 »

since one week I am waiting for my MAF sensor, the issue is that I need the car and I am using it with MAF unplugged.

the question is: what is the risk by running the car with out MAF on it :-/?

Thank you!

Should be OK, as long as all other sensors are working correctly.

The car will be in an error recovery mode, so performance and economy will be affected

Cheers TB
I unplugged it this morning,so it was starting from cold(when the lumpy stuttery idle is worsed) It fired and ran no problem...i guess this confirms a dodgy MAF

Ran mine for a week with MAF disconnected - no problems.

Right well i went out for a run in the car with the MAF unplugged...

Now it was not a completely cold engine but it had been lying for a good couple of hours..

What a difference! Now i know it obviously it measures the air flow etc but the engine was more powerful and a lot more responsive, kicking down the box quicker as well....
As i said i know what the MAF sensor does, but should it really make that much difference?

hey guys, now panda is really in the deeeep shit  :'(

at the end o fhe day, I received my new MAF sensor. very happy of course. I have changed it, it took only 5 mn. after last check. I started the engine. unfortunately not a big difference :(...but now the problem is that I feel the engine is running on 4 or 5 cylindes, swinging and the power dropped sundainly. what it could be. I'm really sad now :((((

was it a new Bosch MAF, or a cheapo chinese one, which may be no more than a resistor  :'( ?

ouch, least it should be ok....but just cos its new does not guarantee it is working.

Can you check for fault codes again?

pedal trick showing the same codes as it was before with the old MAF. 0170; 0173, 0100 :(....

other thing I wanna tell you. after I finished changing the MAF, I removed the spark plugs cover because I have an oil leak. I found the plugs well full of oil. I sucked that oil and clean the wells and fix back the cover. what do you think. could be the spark plugs?? :|
