Dipstick
« on: 03 October 2010, 13:04:28 »

Hi guys, sorry to be asking such a noobish question but it's kind of important. On the dipstick, I have two notches and two round dots embossed on the flat above them. Am I right in thinking the two notches denote max and min oil level, not the dots?

Also, the car's just recently started giving an irregular grunt, a noise I've previously associated with a lack of oil. Upon dipping this morning the level was about 75% the way between the two notches.

Cheers d00ds

All the ones that I've seen have two groove-lines on 'em, obviously for 'min' and 'max' levels.

If you want to be absolutely certain, do a complete oil/filter-change to ascertain.
Total capacity is 6.5 litres.

Very true, and it is overdue for a change, but first I've got to figure out what I'm doing with the drippy sump >.<

Speaking of which, has anyone had any success with a helicoil on the sump drain? And does anyone know what size thread the drain plug is? Ta muchly ^_^

Yes ......... and no to be honest ..........  :D

Helicoiled the latest tractor, but found that it was the actual cast boss that was cracked.
Have done a repair with chemical metal paste, which has been successful to date. Planning on fitting the sump off my spare X25DT next week - sub-frame off etc.
Will get the cracked sump professionally welded in the near future.

To avoid this re-occurring, I've invested in a syphon pump - and it saves crawling around underneath too!
Syphon will easily pay for itself with the amount of oil-changes here anyway.

Sump plug is M14 x 1.5

You'll need a torx 45 bit to remove it.  :y

Or a 17mm socket depending on the age ;)
