If you state your location more precisely then you are looking for a crank sensor and someone to fit it I presume. If that is what is required then someone may come along to assist. With the crank sensor problem the car may restart after a time and you may be able to get home - but it is dangerous if it cuts out on you at speed.

I'm in Ashford kent and i'm not really sure if it is a crank sensor but yes i would be looking for help in locating and fitting a new one if that is the problem. :y

someone may come along soon on this one - in the meantime I would send a PM to OOF member Lizzie Zoom who is in your area and may have some contacts. She is having some changes to her pc so she is not online a lot for next few days but is a good source of info.

According to the code list:

55   Replace Electronic Control Unit (ECU)

Unusual code to get, is this the only one (along with 31?)

Del boy is also in Ashford. He may be able to offer some assistance, although sourcing parts on a sunday afternoon isnt going to be easy.

Only ever seen this when I inadvertently replaced an ECU chip with the wrong one.

It is known for the crank sensor to fail without throwing up an error code.

is your car chipped?  if so a 55 is very common and nothing to worry about

Im not an expert by any means, but a sudden breakdown like this will always make the crank sensor the chief suspect. You cant get the usual code 19 as the engine wont run. Local factors are probably open until 4pm. Worth asking if there is a Eurocraparts or similar local and try to get hold of a sensor.
No gaurentee it will work, but worth a try as your stuck.

Edit. Eurocraparts

Personally not seen a 55 code yet.

From what your saying it does sound like one of the symptoms of a Crank Sensor. The turning over but not firing..
Have you had this happen before?? I had one that was not able to rev over 3000rpm ??  As they as a rule they breakdown before totally stopping I have found  :-?

Not always do you get a code come up either..

Waiting till tomorrow isnt a problem the problem is knowing what is actually wrong i'm guessing a crank sensor isnt cheap is it  common for them to fail.
