question about elite that im breaking

had an email regarding the rear calipers on my 2000 2.5 v6 elite omega ,he is asking if the rear calipers have vented or solid discs ,can anyone help as the car is getting scrapped soon and he is local and i wont be able to check till tonight and it will probably be cold and dark and i wont bother .

that age should be solid, only the later 3.2 / 2.6 cars had vented iirc

mine is an early facelift and has solid rear discs,I would think that your does as well :y

He will,the 3.2 rear calipers are prone to road salt degradation and are no longer a serviced part by VX or Opel the best they can do is a part exchange with a reserviced caliper, trouble is the reservice does not include makeing the original casting good, or even piston replacement, only seal replacement and the casting degrades where the pad retention blocks are.I did post about my problems a few months back and I finally got it sorted,I now intend to check on my Hammerite paint on the calipers pre road salt time,and pay special attention to the calipers with a water spray at car wash time.

Interesting, Cliff. I don't recall hearing about this. What is the nature of the failure you have seen?
