Urgent help please
« on: 30 September 2010, 12:52:30 »

Quick help needed ....  just been to get fuel as we have to leave to visit SWTSMBO Mum in hospital in Bournemouth in 2 hours time .... :(

BOTH sets of indicators going at double time and only front lamps working .. so BOTH rear indicators not flashing. Select hazards ON and all work fine, all other lights in the "clusters" side/brake work properly.

Checked the bulbs both with hazards and spare battery - good
Changed the relay - no difference
Checked 0v (earths) visually seem fine

Done the 30 odd presses of the hazard switch

Am waiting for my multimeter to be returned as a mate borrowed it .. should be here within the hour ... to check fo voltages at the bulb sockets

Any ideas ???  can't understand why BOTH REAR indicators would fail together... :(

HELP PLEASE !!11

I would guess something to do with your towbar wiring

Nige, I'm afraid I can't offer any insight into a possible solution, but if you don't have a replacement vehicle to use...you're more than welcome to borrow a vehicle from me. I can bring a vehicle over to you, wouldn't take too long.
I know that's last case really, but I can't imagine you'd want to drive any great distance with no indicators.

Many, many thanks for all the offers .. much appreciated .. and Jimbob was right !

Couldn't see it being towbar as BOTH sides affected at once, and I THOUGHT they were totally seperate .. but the tow bar wiring - proper Vx job - has a device in it called the "flash guard" ... sodding gurt relay job with 8 contacts ...

Disconnect that and put the other connectors back so effectively no tow-bar .. and everything is working as normal ... we have lights for today  :y :y :y :y

Towbar won't work as is disconnected .. which would make going away tomorrow a tad tricky ..... but Skurays in swidnod reckon they can get me a new relay by tomorrow morning ..... so assuming it IS the relay and nowt else ... we should be fixed...

Only downside is relay is £75 + VAT (with 9% ABS discount) .. and as its electronics if it is not the relay they won't take it back .. :(

Once again .. thanks for all the offers ... OOF at its best ..  :y :y :y

I'd be inclined to either do away with it (flasher unit on mine copes with an extra bulb no problem) or fit a generic one from a towbar dealer.

+1 I fitted a standard 7 way bypass to mine with audible buzzer for about 15 quid(only used it because I was afraid of knackering bulb failure circuitry)

If you pick up the wiring at the towing connector it bypasses the bulb failure sensors IIRC (but you need to bridge the connections on the empty brake bulb failure sensor socket).

Could always use standard relays and power it from the live feed that's available at the towing connector though.
