When driving I feel as if my clutch is slipping on my 2.2 cd auto. having read that it is a torque converter could this be the problem. Not very clued up on this field. cheers in advance

usually the bands check what colour the autobox oil is, another good test is hold foot on brake and in drive give a quick rev the car should either stall or struggle not to if this doesn't happen usually the bands are getting a bit thin, do you feel this in every gear?

First off mate check ATF level in gearbox and top up as necessary.
Next check ATF is clean (red) and not burnt - if it is change it and clean/replce filter.
Then worry about wear in box.

Actually, first up.. what do you mean by 'feel the clutch is slipping'?

Are you used to driving a manual car where there's a 1:1 relationship between change in engine speed and change in road speed? (Yes yes, I know it's not 1:1, but it is a fixed ratio in every gear)

If so then are you sure what you're thinking is 'clutch slip' isn't just how a torque convertor works (engine speed will rise & fall independently of road speed)?


Forgive me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, so to speak.. but it's worth checking before you think there's something very wrong with your car!

Not 100% thats what it is. but having driving my Miggy everyday for about 2 years and you know when its not right. When I had an old car and the clutch was slipping before packing in al together. Well thats what it feels like. But as I said not 100% sure.

Under car drivers side, on side of g/box sump - 13mm level/top up plug.  Howto on here.

Presume I could syphon out the oil and replace without having to strip off the sump. Would that work?
