Autogearbox question
« on: 18 November 2010, 07:25:01 »

2003, 2.6 CDX tends to hang onto the lower gears.

Autobox fluid changed last weekend, made no difference.

Would a program refresh with a TechII help do you think?

I should add, it's fine when it's cold, seems more predominant when hot.

If it's not had the firmware update (don't know how it survived Newent without receiving it?) then I'd recommend it. It improves it greatly.

Worth giving it a few days following the crank sensor issue? I just wonder if the RPM information from the engine ECU had previously been a bit shaky and this has affected the learning of the gearbox ECU?

Under what circumstances is it holding lower gears longer?  I find mine will hold 3rd at "A" road speeds given even the slightest downhill incline and it's a bit reluctant to change up to 4th afterwards. Other than that, it does what I'd do in a manual.

During normal acceleration with light-ish throttle it will hold the gears until 3,000 RPM for the first few starts from cold but once warm it should change up below 2.5k.

Shift points are decided by the gearbox ECU, and if the gearbox doesn't shift when the ECU commands it I would expect it to go into limp home.

Can't recall if we found any old codes in your gearbox ECU at Newent? I think it was clear. :-/

When I suggested initially, about a gearbox software update, I think TB said, as it's a 2003 it will have the latest software.

Not a problem when cold, but when hot, seems, under gentle acceleration, to hold 1st till about 3,500 revs, but not always (about 50/50).

There are no codes showing against the gearbox.

Just thought perhaps the software had got it's knickers in a twist.

Apart from that happening, it changes gear quite smoothly.

no, but think the gearbox header data will show the version, but afaik, no way of proving thats the latest without plugging in the real deal.

Mark / TB knowledge may well know though.

post up the gearbox snapshot data  :y

I remember looking at the date of some of the updates and thinking it significant that GM were issuing updates after the last production Omega so certainly worth a check.

Version number from another tool may or may not tell us something. Depends if anyone knows the latest version for your spec. of car.

That said, I would have dbl checked it, unless I suggested (as it was new to you) to find any potential issues before masking with latest.

Sorry, I don't remember the specifics...

Neither do I, I'm not accusing you of anything. :)
