Did the snow do it??

Hi all, I have a problem with my outside Temp. gauge.
Since it started snowing it just reads 'F' where the number should be. The climate control has gone nuts (currently set to 27 degrees just to get some warm air!)

Does the F simply mean fault? and where is the sensor on a 52 plate Est?

Have you got a load of snow up against, and under, your front bumper?  The sensor is under the front lower panel, so it could well be affected ;) ;)

If the sensor is on its way out, the extreme conditions tend to tip them over the edge..... easy to replace (just pop out and swap), and can be had for around a fiver  :y

Thanks - found it.

No snow but is quite wet - shouldn't cause a problem as it must get wet everytime it rains!

do I take it that the only way to check it works is to change it?

To my knowledge, yes, but others may have another idea.  For £5 it is not worth mucking around for in my opinion ;)

Just read on another forum (sorry!!) that the 'F' stands for freezing!

Can that be right as the temp gauge normally goes well below 0?

It stands for Fahrenheit, or you can select "C" for celsius :D :D ;)

it stands for something other than freezing that still begins with F and ends with D

Drove through some deep flood water once and temperatature gauge fell about  half a degree every 2 seconds... all the way down to -37 degrees C. at which point it stopped and displayed  "F degrees C"
 I guessed this to mean "Fault." Took the sensor off, dried it out  in airing cupboard and put it back on ... all back to normal.  It happened once again when the scuttle drain was blocked up. Got rid of the water in the car, and just let it all dry out naturally, Its been alright since!

Mine is playing up too. It is saying +65 degrees and you don't normally get snow when it is that hot  ;D
Seems to move + or - 5 degrees from there within a mile or two. It also seems to muck up the heating system, I guess because the climate control thinks it is letting in hot outside air when in fact it is freezing !

Thanks for the pointer to the location of the sensor. I'll take a look at it.
