Automatic Gearbox issue
« on: 09 January 2011, 17:04:50 »

Hello fellow omega-owners. I recently bought a -94 MV6 omega. It had automatic gearbox problems so I got it really cheap because of that. So. Let's list it up:

The D-position doesnt work, you have to use it like a manual. I cleaned and measured the position switch, it seems to be fine now and also the led indicators work as they should.

When you put it in gear,if car is cold you can press brake at the same time and it works as it should, doesnt stall and car stays in place. If the car is warm and I put in gear, and press brake, the car tries to move and dies.

I just changed the oil, there is also enough of it.

The automatic gearbox text comes to the screen when power is turned on. TCM fault? The seller gave me two tcm's and same thing with both of them.

Oh,and I live in Finland,so I think no one can come and read my gearbox fault codes :) As I dont have a reader. Yet.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

A couple of questions. When you say you changed the oil. Dexron111 hopefully ? Did you check the oil level with the car level and run through the gears?

Also when you changed the oil, when you dropped the sumps was there any broken plastic thrust washer in the front sump?

Thanks :)

Yes dexron 3 was what I put. Put the oil like this:
First filled up.Then warmed up the car, filled again, took a drive through all the gears, then filled again.

No plastic or anything, everything looked good as new. Also the seller told me that the gearbox has been repaired,so I think the plastic washer has been changed to the metallic one. Also when changing gears manually,it doesnt make any extra sounds or anything. Changes really smooth.

Could it be a faulty Throttle Position Sensor ?   :-/

Antti, I just want to be sure, did you top up with ATF with the engine actually running?

Yes,the engine was running, forgot to mention that.
Wouldnt a faulty MAF or TPS light the engine fault light?

How difficult is it to replace a broken thrust washer?

the guide is in the maint section.

Ive done it as preventative during a box swap, and its not hard, if its done some damage on its way out, a skim may be needed though

erm...if the thrust washer has broken, how long can it be driven for before it becomes a serious problem, or should it just not be driven whatsoever?

Today my code reader arrived. The code was 44, which said: band apply solenoid circuit open. So,any thoughts about that one? Tomorrow Im going to check the wires from the TCM to the solenoid, and if theyre okay, then I guess I have to take the bigger oil pan out once again.
