Sat watching The Sum of All Fears...

Hated it - nothing like the book
One thing that annoys me is when people criticise films purely for not being like the book it was based on.  What works in a book will not work on screen for a variety of reasons, which is why films are never like the books.

Take 007 films - possibly the most successful film franchise ever - none of them are like the original books.  They are still (mostly) good films.

Went from old to a boy, lost the wife, lost the kids, story was not that similar apart from the bomb - should have paid more for Harrison Ford
But does the plot change matter in the slightest was the point I was getting at?

I agree, not a good film. Hunt for Red October is best of the Clancy films imho

When you read as much as me yes - I like films to be quite similar to the book - not too many changes, plot short cuts OK, merging of minor characters OK, but major changes to main characters seems odd

Hmmm, a bit like the good old days of six months or so ago. A few members passing the late night away with some incoherent babblings about nothing in particular. Long may it continue.

On the question of bacon. If you want something really decadent then take a whole pack of bacon, the fattier the better streaky works best, and put it under the grill on the lowest setting you can to get some heat into it. Once it finishes sizzling leave it in there to gradually fry in it's own fat. After 30 - 40 minutes you will have the crispiest tastiest bacon you've ever eaten. Just make sure it doesn't burn.    :P :P :P
