haunted or what??
« on: 27 March 2011, 20:10:09 »

to put you in the picture, i bought my Omega 2 weeeks ago and it has had minor problems that i have rectified some, when i got the car the key fob didnt work ,but martin Imber has fixed that one , the other problem was that the speedo didnt work and that the ABS/TC was constantly on, so i contacted the forum and had believed that the ECU is faulty. so heres my problem , i took the car, wife and child out for a run today went 100 mile round trip and intermitantly the speedo started working and the ABS/TC light went out

any ideas!!!

Not at all uncommon.... the "failure" of the ABS ECU is generally intermittent at first ... mine would work for 5 minutes, then fail for 15 then start working again .. but over time it steadily got worse.... :(

As the failure is basically a wire coming adrift internally my guess is that it is sort of "heat" related as the connection "makes and breaks" and the conformal coating temperature will affect this.

One thing I do know .. it steadily gets worse until it goes completely !!

hi Entwood

thanks for your reply but ,the thing that puzzles me is that the speedo had never worked when i got the car and the ABS/TC lights were always on.

could this mean that it could be a faulty sensors instead of the ECU

ABS ECU for certain, perhaps it just got nice and warm on a long run in warmish weather, enough for the electrickery to start to flow again ...  did you notice any change to the power steering ??? When mine was just about to fail completely the PS also became intermittent... and that was NOT at all  nice .. :(

£130 to fix it was a very good investment IMHO :)

some coolant is lost when changing ABS ECU as pipe has to come off. Might be best to change after that, or at least, use cheap stuff/and or cleaner, then when abs ecu replaced, use vx red coolant.  Someone will say otherwise, but about 9 litre capacity of coolant iirc. Half and half coolant/water. 5 litres of Vx red coolant is £14.09 retail and £11.70 tradeclub at dealers.

p.s. check coolant level, if ok and warning still on, probably a dodgy sensor.
