Webby, if your replacement AirCon control unit is new (as in never fitted to a car) it will be in 'delivery' mode & you will need to have it activated by Tech 2. I have one in my shed that I bought to replace the worn buttons on mine & thought I could just replace the old with the new  ::)
as for needing the radio code, I believe you can turn off the coding but the owners Audio Manual states the sequence of events is on page 17 (CDC6000) only it aint! :( Maybe someone who has done this in the past can help? ;)

have you not got the 'double din' keys?

like

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Radio-Removal-Keys-Pair-Double-DIN-PC5-110-/250516708070?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item3a53f59ae6

and DONT pull on the fascia, expensive mistake to make when it comes off in your hand  :y
