I have had a water leak into the passenger side of the car. Scuttle drain is clear, I have just had a new screen fitted where I thought the problem might be no loss of coolant  but still have a leak. To determine where its coming from would you recommend inspection from inside and if so how much do I have to remove to see this area ,or from the outside with the small scuttle cover removed.  I wonder whether it is coming from the cable entries in this area or from a seam weld.

I do remember reading on here that there is a route from the sun roof drain into the passenger compartment...

I don't know if it is relevant or not, but I had a similar problem in my Peugeot 406 (which I have just replaced with an Omega  ).

It turned out to be a small leak at the heater matrix, which in the 406 is located inside the passenger footwell at the bulkhead, might be worth checking.

are you sure scuttle drain is clear ?? test it with a jug of water it should run through fairly quickly, i thought mine was clear but it was blocked in the bottom of the grommit 
if it is clear remove panel under glovebox and have a fell around there, you could also remove glovebox aswell to get further up if needed

I have the same problem with my saloon and i still can not find were its getting in but as its in my garage at the mo and not in use its on the jobs to do list.  Sorry i can not offer any help mate.  Glad i read that you have had your screen changed cause i thought thats were my problem mite be but now god knows. :-/ :-/

This is a frustrating problem without doubt R but double check the trim at the bottom of the windscreen to ensure that it has been located properly.

When I was looking at the problem with the scuttle on my car I found (in addition) that this trim had moved away from its seating on the glass edge.

Water was also getting past this and, in my case, finding its way onto the rain deflector (which wasn’t doing what it was designed to do) on the bottom of the scuttle.

As the trim is located so closely to the bulkhead the water in your case may find its way into the cabin, without collecting at the bottom of the well, via the scuttle drain compartment at its closest point to the bulkhead.

I assume that you’ve also checked the door seals and bottom drains.

Thanks fiend 61 that panel is that the thick foam panel under the gloove box that runs down to your feet? what holds it in place?

  I have an aversion to cow pies.

Strangely enough the rain deflector is the foam pad attached to the underside of the main part of the scuttle - at least according to the parts diagram in the dealership I visited.

I dont know about deflector all that pad seems to do is get saturated with water where is it supposed to deflect the water to.

I would think towards the bulkhead away from the rear of the engine.

I think when the pad starts taking water some of the welded edge seams have split - the seams at the wiper spindle holes seem to be favourite as they appear to be exposed to the elements (eventually perishing) when the scuttle is in place.

Rain deflector lol, it deflected the rain on mine allright straight onto the passenger side dis pack and b******d it up.

the passenger kickplate is indeed the triangular plastic bit that runs from footwell to underside of glovebox, (doorside) it is held in place by 2 scews one in a hole near the top (you can feel this) and another under the plastic door trim, this trim comes out by sliding the strip with the vauxhall logo on and then prising up you will then see the tork screws holding it in place, the second screw for the kickplate is under that 
the foam panel that runs along the underside of the glovebox is held on by big plastic screw things that just turn with a flat screwdriver, get your head in the footwell and you will see them
