Wrong MAF, Right MAF?

just trying my luck again, a mate has a vectra c 3.2 gsi (2004) man, which has been involved in a rear end collision, so he gave me the MAF on his car.

my MAF No: 0281 002 184 (as said by JB)
gsi MAF No: 0280 218 087

Just because it fits i wouldnt want to put it on. But firstly i want the forums opinion on whether i can/cant use this MAF? Or if anything can i try this to see if my actul MAF is faulty... TIA  :y

I would say they are different part numbers for a reason.

how and why they differ I do not know.

But if they were compatable, why would they both exist?
economies of scale says they would be the same if they could.

You could try disconnecting the wiring plug to the MAF. When mine failed on the 2.5 V6 the car kept stalling whenever you went onto a trailing throttle e.g. going downhill or approaching a roundabout. Damn inconvenient with an auto. Disconnecting removed the problem.

I bought a generic sensor off Ebay. It worked (works) fine and was about £40.

Thanks JB, i just needed that reassurance, as this is the first time iv had a issue with a MAF in the 5yrs iv owned omega's!

The core sensor element is the same, there are some minor variations in either plug orientation or position in the packaging to suit the vectra application (hence the different bosch code). If these are a problem then the sensor array can be unscrewed and transplanted into the original casing.

Should fit ok without though.
