Omega V6 Head gasket??
« on: 17 May 2011, 17:48:15 »

Hi

Noticed a slight oil leak on the garage floor - couldn't see where it was coming from (ricked my back so difficult to lay on garage floor!!).  Took it to my local garage who said I need a new head gasket.  I trust them, however....

The engine is not running hot, there is no gunk inside the filler cap, there are no bubbles in the coolant, AND it starts everytime and goes like sh*t off a shovel.

The oil is neat (not emulsified) on the floor.

Could this really be a gasket problem???  Having done a Supra head gasket (I know wash my mouth out), there are no similar signs being exhibited

you may trust em.....I dont!

Could well be camcover gaskets, or any number of other places, but I do not trust that diagnosis at all

Sounds like cam cover gaskets leaking at the back on the half moons section, get some gen vx gaskets and o rings and have a go yourself when you back gets better. your garage is wrong on this and proberbly 99% of the time on every omega they have ever looked at. :( There is a guide in the maint section on how to do these.
Clean the breathers as well as blocked breathers cause the gaskets to fail early. :P

You trust him ... to what? Rip people off....? cam cover seals running down onto the sump most likely, among other possibles. And mayo in the filler neck is normal for short journeys btw. It's because the filler neck is colder away from the engine(purely to aid filling on rear where drive application)and collects condensation which emulsified with the oil. Not that you have it anyway.  ;)

Nah, not HG.  Cam cover gaskets or oil cooler pipes would be my first port of call
