running/starting problems since rebuild
« on: 14 July 2011, 18:16:09 »

Right, after the rebuild I got her strted today it runs very rough at idle often stalling.  Once running if I can get the revs up its ok although the followers are tapping like mad (expected)

Often once stalled its difficult to start again until its been sitting for a minute.

I'm thinking air leak  :-/

Check the plennum O rings are still in place.
HT leads connected correctly?....the usual mistake is at the coil pack.
If you have a multimeter, check the HT lead resistance, should be 3000 to 10000 ohms, depending on length. Quite common to have one break when disturbing them.

O rings are all there, I double checked the right plugs were in the right place in the DIS pack.  Now when it runs it sounds like the followers are tapping, alot, but it could be severe pinking.....  :-/

granted but thats normal when a miggy stalls.  It takes 20 clean starts to clear but as it keep sstalling I think thats a red herring.... right?

I just replaced my crank sensor as a result of a Code 19 following a misfiring engine and it didn't fix a thing. I'm still enjoying my misfire.

Surely, if the crank sensor is faulty the car won't start at all??

Why do you expect a "19". Did you have a C/S failure & replace hence the "20 clean starts" comment

It will start sporadically until the sensor/wiring goes terminal

19 is never normal, and ive never seen one caused by just stalling!

May not be your only issue, but the disruption may well have upset it.

they can take some time to settle down after this sort of work

dose of wynns lifter treatment may help quieten her down as well.

I remember Mike's needed that after a rebuild
Mine was quiet after a few miles iirc with no help.

sounds like an air leak to me too, the O-rings won't cause a running problem, even if all missing.

Check :-

purge valve connection
all of the dual-ram connectors
fuel pressure regulator vacuum connector
something isn't trapped under the plenum chamber top
