Crank Sensor changed (again) and ......
« on: 24 July 2011, 21:32:09 »

Hi all.

We I finally got a replacement for the suspect faulty crank sensor  (only took 2 weeks).
Fitted it yesterday ,  and charged battery up over night as I'd managed to leave a light on in the car ..grrrr .

tried to start it this morning,  and same old same old ,  engine turns over , no hint of firing,

Paperclip tests gave   89 and 31.

Checked and no spark at the plugs :-(

Suggestions ??

Im thinking a dodgy wire from the sensor socket to the computer thingy ??

Any other suggestions ??

Cheers

Was it an after market or genuine vauxhall sensor.

Code 31 is normal on a V6 when the engine isn't running.

89 is lamda sensor open circuit (afaik) cant see that preventing it starting.I would be looking at fuel supply.Relays fuses etc. Try a direct live feed to the pump to test it, see if it helps it start ?

Update or should I say lack of update  :(

1. Charged battery and refitted.
2. Checked the fuel pump relays, can hear them clicking when engine switched on ,
3. Checked fuel pump , not 100% sure its pumping ,  think I can feel a vibration , but  didnt hear anything (maybe cause Im old?   ;)
4. No spark at spark plug , checked the distribution pak think (by feel)  non of the plugs or leads were out.
5. paper clip test shows 31 and 89 .

Brough a bluetooth OBD2 diagnostics module off fleabay, hopefully that will arrive in a day or so ,  might help track whats going on .
Someone suggest imobiliser problem ??  Is there anyway to check this ?? disable it ??  bypass it ??

If anyones got suggestions , please feel free to post ,  Im not very mechanically minded , but looks like Im going to have to become so  :)

the codes are normal when engine isn't running.

Did you reroute the wire correctly?

On my first Omega the battery going flat caused an immobiliser fault. code 145 iirc

Nope  Keys been nice and safe :-)

Q.   How does the immobilizer work ??

how does it actually immobilize the car ??

and if the car is immobilized how could I tell apart from it not starting  :-)

If the immobilisor is active .. ie its stopping the car from starting .. then the EML light will flash rapidly whilst the engine is cranking.

I realise this is for the facelift but I believe that it is the same for all omegas that don't have the old IR system
