Rear anti-roll bar
« on: 29 July 2011, 21:55:48 »

I have a light knocking noise under the rear of my estate when driving on uneven road surfaces (which is every road where I live!).  I suspect that it is the anti-roll bar bushes as my wife's Vectra estate had a similar problem some years ago and new bushes sorted it.

If this is the problem how difficult is it to change them, they look much less accessable than the Vectra bushes?

If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful.

Would be surprised, but they are accessed by dropping the rear subframe as described in the rear spring replacement guide in maintenance.

Also check top and bottom shock mounts are tight. Can feel the top shock mount by reaching through from the rear seats.

I'd vote for shock mounts too

those 'rose' bushes that you did on a vectra are different on an omega...

so wont be the same.

definately the rear?  I know sounds travel funny in cars sometimes?

But yes, check shocks are tight, check the bushes up by the diff...

and in case its travelling - are your front droplinks ok?  they are a big cause of knocking on bumpy roads.

Thanks for the repliesand sggestions I will check the rear shock absorber mountings tomorrow.

It wasn't the rose bushes on the Vectra Jimbob (they were replaced just before I bought the car) it was the anti-roll bar bushes I renewed which stopped the knocking.  That's why I suspect the ones on my car are worn, the sound is definately fron the rear, I had the back seat down today to collect some plastic roof sheets and it was really noticable from the tailgate area.

No worries, I know those rose bushes are a big cause of knocking so assumed those  :y
