Happened to my old 2.5 cdx about 5 miles after I sold it. Mind you it had been making noises before that for about 100 miles and water was weeping out of the front.

Guy that bought it made it to the m40 from brackley then the waterpump just expired and let all the water out.

Lucky that its pretty cheap to replace, I now have mine replaced with every cambelt change just to be sure.

Exactly the same happened on mine 2months before I bought it to the previous owner. Got the AA report, and the bill from the garage. Labour came in at £120 he had the cam belt and tensioner done at the same time though, but that should not effect labour as all has to be removed to do water pump anyway.

Hope that helps

On V6, Waterpump is aux belt driven, not cambelt driven.

You don't need to remove cambelt to change the water pump  :y

rough breakdown:

2.0/2.2 -> 4 pots (basically same engine with just few differences)

2.2 DTi - 4 pot Chain driven engines, not belt.

2.5TD - BMW Lump, Straight 6

2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2 - V6 Lumps, largely the same, later .6 and 2.'s tad different but basically same engine
