Estimate of cost
« on: 07 August 2011, 10:06:30 »

Hi All

Omega decided to dump all its coolant on Friday evening. Got towed home by AA who thinks its probably the water pump gone.

How much should I expect to pay for an independent garage to fix. This is purley for convenience.

TIA

I doubt that diagnosis....but possible...

More likely a hose or hbv let go I would have thought.

Depending exactly whats happened, shouldnt be more than a couple of hundred.

You may be MUCH better getting one of the mobile mechanics on here to take a look.

Thank Jimbob

Systems are pour water in expansion tank at top and it pours out the bottom just behind the middle pulley type thing (you can tell I'm not a mechanic)!!

certainly the right sort of location for the water pump then.

Unusual failure though to leak like that

Entwood has a locking kit but he is away at the moment I can help you do the water pump so you can get back on the road and then look at doing the cam belt within the next 6 mths how quick do you need the water pump done. :-?

If it's a standard CD with no leather or extra toys you will not get a lot for the bits and about £150-£200 scrap, put a water pump in and sell for £500- £1000 ish with only 74k on it. Look at the bay at sold prices it's not good if you are selling as they drink fuel

I had my water pump replaced recently by my local garage and they charged £100 parts and labour.

Hope that helps with bench marking any prices you get.

Had exactly that on the saloon a couple of years back - sudden collapse of water pump bearing and all coolant dumped.
