vauxhall omega 2.2 petrol auto box problems
« on: 27 July 2011, 20:49:24 »

my 2001 2.2 petrol autobox seems to hold on to its gears for a long time(especially when setting of from a standstill on a hill)gear changes are quick and smooth when the engine is cold, but once warmed up the engine revs to just over 4 thousand before 2nd gear is engaged, then same for 3rd gear.always has a smooth gear change .although first thing in a morning it does seem to go from park to drive with a thud, ive checked the auto transmission fluid level, that was fine, and its colour was a very clean red...
gear selector works fine and i have no warning lights or messages coming from the dash...the car has done 84 thousand,no towbar fitted.any ideas,
neil..

any engine codes stored?  or transmission?

have you changed the fluid, or just topped up?

have you ever had the software on the autobox checked / updated?

no codes stored in the transmission
topped up the gearbox with engine running but didnt take much, was pretty much full
never had an ecu update done.
can the filter in the gearbox get so clogged it would reduce the fluid pressure ,hence the need for high revs?

Interesting........ DLK commented on mine when we we went out at the Lakes Meet, he seemed to suggest it was holding the gear for a while..... :-/ :-/

My experience is that when cold, holds first for a long time, slow acceleration..... If you drive with your foot to the floor it will hold the gears a more gentle drive and the gears will change up quicker....... :)

I am currently doing unscientific tests which seem to suggest that I get more MPG when driving normally in Sport mode, particularly around the town..... :-/ :-/ :-/

thats the weird thing about mine, when first used in a morning,it slides through the gears fairly quick, drives lovely until warm.hates changing gear on even the slightest of inclines, from a standing start.

would the filter in the gearbox get so blocked as to reduce fluid pressure to the servos in the box,or could this be a sign that yet another component is slowly failing..got car in nov 2010,since then ive changed the following, all genuine gm parts..
 air flow meter
cat downpipe
both lambda sensors
camshaft sensor
new rocker gasket{now no oil in plug wells)
spark plugs(bosch super 4s)
exhaust manifold plus gasket..

good evening, this damn omega is back to its old tricks again,as in holding gears for ages before changing up,fitted 2 gen lambda sensors to replace the other 2 that were showing faults...what the hell causes the gearbox to hold on to gears for so long on the flat and the slightest of gradients?
gearbox filter and fluid change has made no difference whatsoever...
no eml lights on.

ive heard about ecu updates for the autobox but not sure if it can be done with the facelift 2.2 petrol..just getting fed up with it feeling like im having to thrash it all the time upto 4500 revs for it to changed gear...works and drives lovely until the cats have warmed up...grr..
